1957. Holland. Lives and works in California.
Photographer and filmmaker. Ari Marcopoulos has worked as a documentary photographer for over twenty years, always immersing himself completely in the individuals, personalities, visionaries, and scenes he has photographed. Marcopoulos came to New York City in the early 1980s where he printed photographs for Andy Warhol. His rarely published photographs of Jean-Michel Basquiat and his attention to the growing hip-hop scene in New York City (Fab 5 Freddy, Run-DMC, Beastie Boys) have made him as a popular artist. In addition, Marcopoulos has directed numerous short films and exhibited his work worldwide.
